Just steps from Plaza Vasco de Quiroga is a smaller square, the Gertrudis Bocanegra. The plaza and a statue on the site was named in memory of a heroine from Patzcuaro who was shot.

In front of the Plaza Gertrudis Bocanegra is the Snacks and Crafts Market where you can find everything. At night craft stalls are replaced by the famous enchiladas placeras, whose fame is known throughout the region.
