Plaza Vasco de Quiroga
Plaza Vasco de Quiroga
The Plaza Don Vasco is considered one of the most beautiful in the Americas and is surrounded by stately homes and gardens. At the center, there is a fountain surrounding the statue of a man, Bishop Don Vasco de Quiroga. An interesting point to note is that this place has no church around it because, legend has it, it was built under the indigenous tradition indicating that ceremonial centers are not to be located within the village.
It is common for local artists to display and sell their works along the paths and in the gardens of the plaza, or you can enjoy the traditional Dance of the old men (Danza de los Viejitos) and holiday celebrations such as the Day of the Dead, and it is home to a large regional craft market.
