The Giant’s House, or Casa del Gigante, is located in the Portal Chaparro, in the center of the city of Patzcuaro.
Built in the seventeenth century, it is named after an imposing sculpture of an unidentified soldier placed between two of the columns supporting the arches of the corridor upstairs.
This house belonged to the Count of Menocal and many great personalities stayed here in the eighteenth century, such as the geographer, Prussian naturalist and explorer, Friedrich Heinrich de Humboldt better known in Spanish as Alejandro de Humboldt or Alexander von Humboldt.
