If you come to Zacatecas and do not go to the Acropolis, it's like not having come to Zacatecas ... the saying that the people of the city has created about our Café-Restaurant. Founded in 1943 by Said Samán Farah, this space is one of the obligatory points for own and strangers that cross the center of the capital and one of the favorite of tourists.
The Acropolis has always been located in the city of Zacatecas, but there have been 3 venues with which we have counted, all on Avenida Hidalgo; The first where the Paquín is, eleven years later on the opposite sidewalk and finally in 1983 we moved to the Mercado González Ortega where we are currently located. The intention of our founder was to create a place for the whole family that could enter men, women and children in a time when canteens abounded.

Café-Restaurant Acropolis has a long history and tradition, is a family business Zacatecana.
Consolidated for more than 73 years located in the Historic Center of Zacatecas.
The Acropolis Café-Restaurant opens its doors from 7:30 am to 10:30 pm, has a capacity of 150 people in the Restaurant area and for 20 more people in the terrace located next to the restaurant.

Said Samán Farah was born in Homs, Syria in 1919 and at the age of 18 changed his residence to the City of Zacatecas in 1937, where he came in search of his sister, and 6 years later in June 1943 founded in the city of Zacatecas First coffee as public space; Acropolis. In a city like this one, with customs and a highly Catholic society, had to wait until the twentieth century. A Greek migrant opened this establishment, but after a few months sold it, in the face of society's lack of custom. It was then when Said Samán Farah, acquired the small business where snow was sold transforming it into restaurant, Café and Nevería Acropolis becoming Emblem of Zacatecas and the first Zacatecan Café.

In the warm atmosphere of this place, much of the small history of our ancient city of Zacatecas and of the country itself takes place, for here pilgrims stopped the highest political category, artists, writers, intellectuals and personalities. Claro is that every visitor of Zacatecas, goes to this café located next to the Cathedral.

The place is attended by parishioners who for more than 70 years daily attend coffee and live together, young restless, mature men and politicians discussing the destinies of the world, commenting on the happenings of the day; Reflective elders, children receiving the prize of ice cream, mothers, wives, girlfriends, girlfriends etc

Recognized in history by the Association of Writers of this City as the oldest coffee in the city and the first Café-Restauran-Museum of the city of Zacatecas, "ACROPOLIS". A Family Tradition that fascinates the visitors and prides itself on the Zacatecas, gathered for generations in this place, a singular and pleasant space of meeting and reunions where day after day the parishioners gather without meeting, making this an institution for the talk And coexistence in the capital Zacatecana

Between the years of 1967 to 1995 several parishioners made painted and sgraffed ceramics with the seat that leaves the Turkish coffee, forming a collection of 55 works between these it is important to emphasize a ceramic that portrays to the founder of the Acropolis Mr. Said Samán Farah.

With no greater pretensions than to show his contemporaries contemporary works of art - paintings, drawings, sculptures, engravings and lithographs - as well as the poems and thoughts of artists, intellectuals and personalities who have met at the Acropolis, Fuad Saman Zajur, its director And son of the founder has managed to gather a collection of more than three hundred works. This collection has been enriched by acquisitions from various collections of Mexican and foreign art.

The first of the drawings that compose the collection and one of the most anecdotal was the Oaxacan master Rufino Tamayo made in 1986. He was invited to leave a testimony of his visit to the Acropolis. The master agreed willingly and executed an ink drawing that represents one of its emblematic characters that also shows a dedication to the Zacatecas. When Olga noticed the value of the piece that her husband was about to give away, he snatched it and simply wrote down the caption "Yo, whatever Rufino said and the check was missing."

Currently the collection has works by Julio Ruelas, Francisco Goitia, Rafael Coronel, Pedro Coronel, Manuel Felguérez, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo, Francisco Toledo, Sergio Hernández, Gustavo Montoya, Alfredo Zalce, Leonora Carrington, José Luis Cuevas, Roberto Matta , Salvador Dalí and Miro among others. Two pieces of mural paintings of Zacatecan masters produced ex profeso for this space call attention. One by Alfonso López Monreal titled The Memories of My People, the other by Rito Sampedro titled Communicating Vases.
