Montejo Drive is distinguished by a large number of colonial buildings that have been restored thanks to private initiative, and converted into shops.  One of those, a particularly beautiful white house is the Palacio Canton. Built in Italian Renaissance style, the house is full of delicate details in its floors, walls and an exquisite marble staircase that is something to be admired. It was built during the time of Porfirio Diaz, and it now houses the Museum of Anthropology and History of Merida.
