Ex-Convent of San Bernardino de Siena
Ex-Convent of San Bernardino de Siena
This former convent was the first Franciscan monastery and one of the oldest in America. It was built in 1592 by the Franciscan Francisco de Torantos. Originally made of mud but two hundred years after a fire destroyed it. Subsequently, in 1804 began the reconstruction in neoclassical style in quarry and masonry. Inside you can see two very important pictures as El Cristo de los Plateros (The Christ of the Silversmiths) and El Señor del Santo Entierro (The Lord of the Holy Burial).
