The Pipila is a monument that was erected in honor of Juan Jose de los Reyes Martinez, who was nicknamed The Pipila, because he performed a heroic deed on September 28, 1810.
In the first battle of the War of Independence, he burned down the door of the Alhondiga Granaditas. The site serves as a 360 degrees lookout and offers a spectacular view, day or night.
At the rear of the monument is an entry that allows one to go up to the top of it.
The monument can be reached by the funicular that is to the side of the Juarez Theater, or by public transportation in front of the Hidalgo Market.
It is recommendable to use the funicular because of time and distance.
