Information

Of all the silver mined in Guanajuato, two-thirds came from the Mina La Valenciana. It was one of the richest and most productive mines, since the discovery of this main vein in the 16th century.

The benefits derived from this mine for Spain were so great that their owners were decorated with the titles of Counts and Viscounts by King Carlos III.

Due to the great benefit that these veins represented, thousands of indigenous people lost their lives during the booming period of the mining centre.

Today, the mine continues to be explored to the depth of 530 meters.

Guided tours are allowed during limited hours.
