Xkeken Cenote (sinkhole)
Xkeken Cenote (sinkhole)
Along the Mérida-Valladolid Highway 180, just 5 kilometers before reaching Valladolid is the town of Dzitnup famous for its two spectacular cenotes of dazzling beauty, X’keken Cenote and Samula Cenote.
Also known as Dzitnup Cenote, Xkeken Cenote is a underground cavern that is characterized by a natural hole on the top of the dome allowing the rays of the sun to shine on the crystalline turquoise waters.
It also has artificial lighting that accentuates the terrain of the imposing and majestic stalactites that form it.
An ideal place for the whole family, access to the waters of the X’keken Cenote is via the stairs and in deeper areas there are safety ropes.
Do not forget to bring snorkeling gear and a swimsuit.
