Central Building of the UASLP
Central Building of the UASLP
Located next to the Templo de la Compañía, directly opposite the Plaza de Fundadores, the Central Building of the University occupies today, the building that the Jesuits built for their school in 1624. After the expulsion of the Jesuits from New Spain in 1767, the building functioned as a primary school until 1826, when the Colegio Guadalupe Josefino was founded, the first institution of higher education. The building serves currently as the central offices of the Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi. It is worth noting that between 1871 and 1872, at the time when it was the Literary and Scientific Institute, its facade was renovated from a Baroque to a neoclassical style.
