The Amber Museum of Chiapas
The Museo del Ambar of Chiapas opened on December 4, 2000 in the ex-convent of La Merced.
The showroom of this museum displays over 300 pieces that show in an educational manner, the origin and time of amber, how it is formed, the main deposits in the world, the method of extraction, prehispanic and current uses, as well as the beautiful pieces of lapidary jewelry and sculpture.
The museum has a café, and a conference room, and as well offers guided tours, amber and metal (blacksmith’s forge) workshops, and jewelry making workshops.
Open: Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 2:00 and 4:00 to 7:00.
