Information

Built in the mid-nineteenth century as part of the celebrations held in honor of Charles IV taking the throne, The Plaza de Toros de Real de Catorce (adjacent to the Cemetery and Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe) looked like an octagon painted in blue and white. It was renovated in 1863 by businessman Diego González, and over the years it acquired the aspect of an "Arena", being made entirely of stone. A few steps away is El Paredon, or The Wall.  This wall was destined for use as the place of executions during the struggle for Independence and the Mexican Revolution. It is said that fourteen bandits were shot here, thus giving the name to this locality. Looking closely enough at the wall, holes can be seen in the wall from the impact of the bullets. From this site, a wide view of the Sierra de Catorce can be admired.
