A natural beauty just ten minutes from Playa del Carmen is an adventure in the jungle that promises to be an unforgettable experience.  The Secret River was recently discovered.

The story goes that the property owner went hunting and found a jaguar that led the owner to the entrance. Below the Mayan soil there is a wonderful geological formation dating back millions of years. Cavers and others have mapped the place but only 10% of it can be visited.

The Secret River (Río Secreto) is now open to the public and includes special equipment for diving and exploring the cave. The natural beauties are endless. Stalactites hang from the ceiling and from the ground stalagmites loom with an amazing natural shine; sometimes the quartz form a roughness of distinct shapes and sizes.

Tourists have the opportunity to visit three routes. The trails lead through different geological formations where living beings capable of adapting to the underworld were discovered, including catfish, some bats, spiders, and shrimps without pigmentation, among others. It is surprising to find that, despite the inhospitable conditions, there are animals that use a sensory system to survive.

The magical trail includes a dip in a kind of underground cenote or sinkhole and the famous Secret River that is a unique sensory journey of formations of calcium carbonate, clear water, and ancient columns that hang like waterfalls. The Secret River is a trip not to be missed.
