Information

The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Light in the city of León was built by the Jesuits from 1765 until the 19th century.

Dedicated to Our Lady of the Light, patron saint of the city since 1810, and elevated to cathedral on March 16, 1866, it is considered to be the most important architectural piece of work built during the second half of the 19th century in Guanajuato and is now in the seat of the Archdiocese of León.

The grounds have eight domes and a central dome. Its six chapels and its facade, flaunt the Neoclassical, Mudejar, and even Art Deco architectural styles.

Every detail of this building, from the doors to their altars, is considered a true work of art.
