by: Travel by México

Rincon de Guayabitos is a small coastal town and tourist resort located on the shore of the Bay of the same name. Located between Puerto Vallarta and Tepic, it is considered one of the most beautiful, quiet, and cozy beach destinations of the Riviera Nayarit, the tourist corridor of a little over 160 km in length located along the coasts of the State of Nayarit on the Mexican Pacific.

Developed in the early 1970’s as part of the Trust of Banderas Bay project, Rincon de Guayabitos belongs to the metropolitan area comprising the towns of Penita de Jaltemba and Los Ayala.

Rincon de Guayabitos was discovered by the Spanish who in search of a port closer to the evangelization of the Californias and the exploration of the Islas Marias.  They found this beautiful beach with crystal clear calm waters, making this a point of departure from the Nayarit Coast of Chacala, Bay of Banderas and Matanchén.  Due to their wealth, these places were attacked by the English and Dutch and attracted pirates.

Today it is a quiet place that offers visitors beautiful scenery, a relaxed family atmosphere and a wide variety of attractions and activities to ensure maximum fun. Rincon de Guayabitos is not only a great location but the beach is regarded as  one of the largest natural pools in the world with its 2 km long and 30 meters wide of warm and calm waters, ideal for water sports such as canoeing, rowing, jet skiing, surfing, sailing, and snorkeling to name a few. It is a good choice to spend the day at this beach.

Another activity of this highly sought after destination is diving around the islands, Isla Coral and El Cangrejo.

The waters of the Bay of Rincon de Guayabitos safeguard one of its most valuable treasures, a place full of life and colors: the Guayabitos coral reefs. Be sure to visit them, they will surprise and fascinate you with its lush vegetation and wildlife: manta rays, turtles, starfish, white flowers and multicolored fish, among others.

The sighting of humpback whales is another very popular ecotourism activity in Rincon de Guayabitos, which can be seen from December to mid March.  The following destinations, each beautiful and magical in their own way, are among the attractions that Rincon de Guayabitos offers its visitors: La Penita de Jaltemba, Los Alaya, the islands of El Coral and El Cangrejo, and the beaches of Playa los Ayala, Playa Frideras, Playa Tortugas, Playa del Beso, Playa Chacala and Chacalilla.
