Designed by architects Luis Barragan and Raul Ferrera, the Tower of Commerce is now perhaps one of the most distinctive landmarks of our city. After various proposals among the promoters of the work it was decided to install it at this great forum for that would be admired by all citizens and visitors. Commenced construction in January 1983 and was inaugurated on 7 December 1984 in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Foundation of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Monterrey. The orange color that distinguishes it is attributed to its plasma designer modern art it requires 360 liters of paint in this special color to cover its surface. This majestic work is sponsored by various business and community leaders in conjunction with the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism, symbolizes the strength of men and women of the north, his uprightness and austerity to behave in the development of this city. Recognized as the highest artistic monument from Mexico, El Faro del Comercio has a height of 69.80 meters, 12.33 meters long and only 1.83 meters wide. To reach its summit must walk 346 steps in where the famous and powerful 20-watt laser beam that illuminates at night the beautiful mountains surrounding the city of Monterrey. The team working with distilled water in its cooling system located at the bottom, must maintain a temperature of 22 degrees Celsius to prevent this damage. The laser works through the use of modern technology through a software called LASERMAX. In March 2001 the Ministry of Education announced the presidential decree declaring the Faro del Comercio Monument national art through the National Institute of Fine Arts. Operating hours: Thursday from 21:00 to 23:00 hrs. Friday from 21:00 to 24:00 hrs. Saturday from 21:00 to 24:00 hrs. Sunday 21:00 to 22:00 hrs. Operations are suspended due to bad weather.
