Information

The word Guanajuato is a Purepech word that means hill or place of frogs. For this reason, at the entrance to the town you can see a large open quarry adorned with many frogs in marble and other materials, to create the illusion and remind the visitor of the nature of the region.

Next to the Plaza, in the back, there is a wall with the inscription Guanajuato World Heritage Site as deemed by UNESCO, making the city a protected area for its history, architecture and cultural heritage.

And, La Plaza de las Ranas serves as a meeting point for many activities of the International Cervantino Festival
