Church of the Immaculate Conception
Church of the Immaculate Conception
The Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción known locally as “Las Monjas” (the Nuns), was originally constructed as part of an extensive housing complex, and continues even today to serve as a convent for the sisters of the order of the Immaculate Conception Church. The church was built between 1755 and 1842, and the elegant dome was added by Zeferino Gutierrez in 1891. He once again took inspiration for his design from a famous European site, styling the dome remarkably similar to that of the Church of Les Invalides in Paris.
