The Parish of Ixtapan de la Sal is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and the Lord of Forgiveness. The patrons of the city hold festivities in his honor on August 15 and on the second Friday of Lent, respectively.  Located in the historic center of Ixtapan de la Sal between Calle Alvaro Obregon and Nicolas Bravo, next to the Plaza Garden of the Martyrs, this religious building is the main landmark of the city.  Built by Franciscan friars, it is distinguished by its striking architectural simplicity, characteristic of this order, and by its style of tequitqui, a term that describes the indigenous art forms inspired by European influences and iconographic techniques. The interior of the parish is noted for its beautiful finely carved Baroque styled pulpit and its chapel which houses a Christ lying in a horizontal display. It’s the Lord of Forgiveness formerly known as the Lord of Torments.
