Information

The Cañon del Sumidero is a national treasure for the quantity of the nature and wildlife that exist there.

It was declared a National Park in 1980, with the aim of preserving natural areas. Some of the walls of this impressive geological fault formed about 40 million years, and reach up to 3,280 feet in height.
During a boat ride on the Grijalva River, you can go into caves and admire interesting waterfalls, like that of the noteworthy ‘Christmas Tree’.
The Canyon can be accessed at the Cahuare Pier in the town of Chiapa de Corzo, located about 9 miles from Tuxtla Gutierrez.
