Zicatela Beach is one of the beautiful beaches that make up the Pacific Coast of Oaxaca.
Located southeast of Puerto Escondido, a short distance from the center of town, is a beach about 4 km long and 30 to 40 meters wide, which is characterized by fine gray sand, a steep slope, and is known as "the" favorite Mexican beach for surfers!
According to experts it is the best "beach break" in the world! So much so that U.S. surfers call it the "Mexpipe" or the "Mexican Pipeline".
As part of the festivities in November in Puerto Escondido, held each year is the International Surfing Tournament, a thrilling three day competition involving Mexican and foreign professional surfers.
In late July and early August, there is the Surf and Bodyboard Championships called "Zicatela Pro".
In 2010, 120 athletes participated in 3 categories. The finalists in this competition were: Dave Hubbard, Brother Pereira, and Karla Costa Eunate Aguirre.
During these events, which are organized by the Association of Surfing Oaxaca State (A.S.E.O.), the Miss Bikini contest, rallies, marathons, and other cultural events are also held.
