Information

Created through the Amparo foundation on February 28 1991, the Mueso Amparo is considered to be one of the best in Latin America.  It is located in the Historic Center of Puebla. This museum is set in old buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries, known as El Hospitalario. One of the buildings was formerly the old Hospital of Our Lady and St John Lateran, and another is a beautiful Pueblan house that once was part of the Hospital, then became a “House of Married Women,” and from 1871 on it was the family home of Pueblan lawyer Vicente Espinosa Bandini grandfather of philanthropist Manuel Espinosa Yglesias. The culturally rich permanent exhibits include pieces from various cultures: Teotihuacan, Zapotec, Huasteca, Totonac, Maya, Olmec, Chichimeca, Mixtec and Aztec. In addition, displayed also are some of the most important moments in the life of the country from the first settlers to the present day. The museum also has temporary art exhibits. The Mueso Amparo is open from 10 to 6, except closed on Tuesdays. Admission is free on Mondays.
