The Museo Regional de Historia lies within an old mansion from the 19th century that previously housed the Casino Hotel. It is one of the most important museums of Colima, and details the history from the pre-Hispanic days until post revolutionary times. One of its most interesting exhibits is a full-scale reproduction of a Tyre tomb that exemplifies the system of pre-Hispanic burial practiced in the region. The archeological exhibit rooms are themed: Mesoamerica and the West, Volcano and material culture, the ritual of death, fantastic Zoology, self-representation and identity, the past as root. The history exhibit halls are themed: The earth, sea, sky, silk, iron, the blanket.  The Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.  There is a small entrance fee, with Sundays being free.  The museum offers special exhibits, educational workshops, summer courses, assessorship, 40 min guided tours, coat check, and tours for school groups.
