The inauguration of the monumental flag pole by President Ernesto Zedillo in Cancun was on January 23, 1998, to which an estimated six thousand people attended.
Impressive and majestic, the flag is so large that one can see it waving all the way at the 5th kilometer of the hotel zone, from downtown Cancun and even, some say,  from Isla Mujeres. The staff is 103.7 meters, with a length of 424 thousand square meters and 120 kilograms in weight. The texture of the material used to make the flag is similar to used for making parachutes.
