The Museo Francisco Goitia is housed in a one-story building that is surrounded by beautiful and extensive gardens, which was formerly the official Governors residence from 1948 until 1962.
In 1978, it was turned into a museum by the National Institute of Fine Arts, to permanently exhibit a wonderful selection of the most prestigious works from artists that originated from Zacatecas, altogether representing 100 years of contemporary art production.
More than 170 works from great Zacatecan masters can be seen, such as: Julio Ruelas, Francisco Goitia, José Kuri Brena, Pedro Coronel, Rafael Coronel, and Manuel Felguérez, who all had extensive international recognition, and together occupy an important place in the representation of Mexican Art.
The Museum also holds special exhibitions, concerts, recitals, book presentations, etc.

Francisco Goitia was born in Zacatecas in 1882, and died in Xochimilco in 1960. He studied at the Academia de San Carlos where he replaced Jose Clemente Orozco, a fact which led him to be admired and recognized by the painters of that time. In 1907 his work was exhibited in Rome which won him a medal.
He did not produce a large number of paintings, but what he did paint was exceptional. His "Tata Jesucristo" (1927), is an acknowledged masterpiece of Mexican easel painting. He prepared technically his entire life, gave of his work to the country, and contributed to the so-called “ Mexican Art Renaissance."

The museum is open from 10:00 to 5:00 - Closed on Sundays - Adults $ 30 pesos
