The Museo Manuel Felguerez is located in the Historic Center of Zacatecas, in a 19th century building that once was the seat of the Theological Seminary of the Immaculate of Zacatecas.
In 1997 artist Manuel Felguerez decided along with his wife, to donate a sizable anthology of his work for the creation of this museum, which opened in September 1998. In 1999, upon the presentation of the first stage of the permanent collection, the local State Government decided to expand the museum, which it continued to do through it’s final conclusion in August 2001. In the reshaping and restructuring of the building,  the original architecture was combined with modern elements which resulted in creating a space of exceptional originality.

The permanent collection of paintings and sculptures consists of the works of over 110 Mexican and foreign artists with a background in abstract art. One of the most important highlights is the collection of 11 large works that were painted to represent Mexico at the World Fair in Osaka, Japan in 1969.  The participating artists were Manuel Felguérez, Lilia Carrillo, Roger von Gunten, Fernando García Ponce, Arnaldo Coen , Vlady, Antonio Peyri, Brian Nissen, Francisco Corzas, Francisco Icaza and Gilberto Aceves Navarro. Another small notable display is a collection of models of the sculptures from the ‘La Ruta de la Amistad’ which were made for the Mexico Olympics in 1968.

The Museo de Arte Abstracto Manuel Felguerez is the creation of a man who was generous and a visionary, and a tribute to the Zacateca artist who has left his footprint in time.
