The Catedral de Zacatecas is one of the most beautiful temples to be found in Mexico. It is an indisputable part of the skyline in this imposing pink stone city. The construction of this masterpiece of Baroque architecture from the time of New Spain, began in 1731 and was partially completed in 1752, when a solemn ceremony of dedication of the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary was carried out.

Its splendid decor has been classified by several names, of these being: Exuberant Baroque, Ultra Baroque or Baroque Churrigueresco, with the conclusion that because of its originality, the church should simply be classified as: Baroque Zacatecas. On the beautiful pink stone facade,  many elements are embodied that are related to the Eucharist, resembling a gigantic altarpiece. There is a representation of the Holy Trinity, bordered by the twelve apostles, which begins in the choir window with the Holy Spirit, continues with Christ the Son, and finally topped with the Eternal Father surrounded by musical angels.  The breathtaking view of the main facade is best appreciated in the late afternoon or at night.
