The Alameda José Trinidad Garcia de la Cadena is a park that was built in the early nineteenth century for the people of Zacatecas, and is surrounded by colonial streets. It was adorned with Poplar, Willow and Mulberry trees to mark where the city ended. In 1835, two fountains were installed, in 1915 its central kiosk was put in place.

In 1954, the statue of Francisco Garcia Salinas, elected governor in 1828, was unveiled.

It is here, in the Alameda, where the Book and Reading Fair takes place every year, along with many other cultural and political events that punctuate the social life of the city of Zacatecas.
