The Metropolitan Cathedral of Xalapa is the most important of the  state of Veracruz and is also  the see of the Metropolitan Archbishop. It was consecrated to Our Lady de la Inmaculada Concepcion, patron saint of the city of Xalapa. Inside you will find the museum and the remains of Rafael Guizar Valencia (1877-1937), fifth bishop of Veracruz, beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1995. Its construction began in 1641 but delayed until 1772 to be terminated and  being considered Cathedral since 1864. It was built according to the Baroque style and has two towers, one is incomplete and the other has a clock especially brought from England. The popular legend relates that the construction was interrupted because the tunnels emerging from the basilica not bear the floor of the new building.
