The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption (Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción) is located in the center of the City of Veracruz, on Mario Molina Street next to the Plaza de la Constitución or Zócalo and the Palacio Municipal.

Its construction was completed in 1731 and three years later, on June 13, 1734, it was designated as a Cathedral of the diocese.

This cathedral boasts a neoclassical façade. It has five naves and side chapels dedicated to Saint Joseph, Our Lady of Mercy, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Blessed Dario Acosta Zurita, a young Veracruz martyr, Father Miguel Agustin Pro, a Martyr of Christ, Saint Charbel, the Holy Trinity, and the Chapel of the Virgin of the Assumption.  In the early nineteenth century, the vault and the choir section were built.

The latter has a beautiful Gothic style organ made in England from fine wood. Its dome is decorated with blue tiles and topped with a lantern. Since 2009, the Cathedral of Veracruz has been part of a rescue plan carried out by "Rescue our Cathedral," a Board of experts led by Tere Malpica of Estandía. The works are being led by the architect Flavio Güemes Salamanca. The first stage of restoration, the ceilings, domes and arches, was completed in November 2009. 

Mass:  Monday to Saturday:  7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 12 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  Sunday:  7:00 a.m. , 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m. (children), 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
