Opened on September 14, 1984, the Museo Regional de Antropología e Historia de Tuxtla Gutierrez, has a temporary exhibition hall, and disseminates an overview of the development of the Maya, Olmec and Zoque cultures in its two permanent galleries. The first refers to the prehistoric peoples of Chiapas and contains one of the most valuable archaeological collections in the country, and the second covers historical and ethnographic aspects from the 16th century to the present.

Room 1: Prehistory in Chiapas
Pre-classic Period: (2000-1000 BC). Classical Period (300-900 AD). Post-Classic Period: after the fall of the great Maya cities (900 AD).

Room 2: History of the State of Chiapas.
Starting with the arrival of the Spanish in 1524, up through the Mexican Revolution. On display are weapons, paintings, furniture, documents from the state’s political life, and objects of everyday life.

Museum Hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 6:00. Admission is $ 41 pesos. Free admission for children under 13, students, teachers and seniors with I.D. Admission is free on Sundays. Closed on Mondays.
