William Spratling was a great promoter of the silverware and the talent of the Mexican artisans. He began his work with silversmiths of Iguala and formed his first workshop. Later, he devoted himself to collecting prehispanic pieces and in 1960, donated only part of his collection to the UNAM. After his death in 1967 and according to his will, the rest of his collection passed into the hands of the City of Taxco, and in 1975 was inaugurated this museum that bears his name and is in charge of the National Institute of Anthropology and History. Inside the museum provides a historical sketch of the city, from its founding until the Revolution. It has an area devoted to the silverware and local religious festivals.
