Civic Plaza
Civic Plaza
The Plaza Civica was originally built in 1555 next to the Plaza de la Soledad. It was this plaza, and not the main square that was the hub of the town’s activity in its time, serving both as the market place and the meeting place. Today, a large statue of Ignacio Allende on a horse dominates the plaza. The large building on the northeast corner was once the College of San Fransisco de Sales attended by the heroes of the Independence Aldama, Umarán and Allende.
