The House of the Viceroy Don Felix Maria Calleja dates from the 18th century. Located in the northern part of the Plaza de Armas, a few steps from the Cathedral of San Luis Potosí, this house belonged to Doña Francisca, the Vicereine, wife of the Viceroy Felix Maria Calleja. It was built in 1736, and to date,  is has preserved intact its large patio and a wood panel door.  Its balcony is one of the most attractive of the country, and the most elegant one in the City of San Luis Potosi. It represents the traditional Potosi balcony style of the time, because of its high quality corbels and cornices, as well as for its slanted ironwork.

Don Felix Maria Calleja was the organizer and head of the army of the central parts (1810-1812) during the War of Independence, and the sixtieth viceroy of New Spain, ruling from 1813 to 1816.
