The Jardin Hidalgo, also known as Plaza del Comerico, or Commerce Square, in its beginning followed the slope of the street and had a fountain in the center. By 1885, there were several renovations: the fountain was upgraded as a viable drinking source, the square was leveled to be used as a garden, and fifty-two benches were placed, forming part of the perimeter of the plaza. In 1888, the iron arches were added,  and a kiosk in 1928 that replaced the old fountain. Here, the first shops were established, and this square operated as the social and economic center of Real de Catorce. Today, promoters gather to offer horseback tours of the Cerro Grande, the Ghost Town, the Cerro del Quemado and elsewhere in the Sierra de Catorce. And also, the ’Willys’ or postwar jeeps park along the perimeter that offer Safari tours of the Wirikuta Reserve.
