While it is true that Chichen Itza is located in the state of Yucatan, and Playa del Carmen is located in Quintana Roo, this is an important attraction for the entire Riviera Maya. Thanks to modern means of communication that characterize all of Mexico, Chichen Itza can be reached from anywhere in the Riviera Maya in just 2 hours. In fact, there are many tours that leave early every day, ideally around 7:00 or 8:00 am, that leave plenty of time to tour the site and then to go and eat at one of the typical restaurants in the town of Piste.
Chichen Itza is notable for being the most important archeological site in the Yucatan Peninsula, and the second most visited set of ruins in the country.  The discoveries made in this area have been numerous and very relevant. Its fame is always growing, be it because each year thousands of visitors come during the spring and autumn equinoxes, or because of being declared one of the Seven New Wonders of the World. The ancient City of the Itza continues and will continue to offer an image that memorializes the culture of this mighty civilization.
