Home of the patron saint of the region the Virgin of Health welcomes thousands of the faithful who flock each year to pray for their health. This image was molded in cornstalk paste and vegetable gum extracted from an orchid, a technique used by the artisans of Michoacán.

The original plan of Don Vasco was to build a temple worthy of kings where there would be enough space for 30,000 faithfuls, for anyone to stand outside. It had five naves, but they were never completed.

It should be noted that the church is in the heart of the city of Patzcuaro, as in most of the colonial cities in Mexico and it was built on the remains of the ceremonial center of the Purepecha.

Don Vasco de Quiroga is buried at this site.
