Parks and SquaresThe Alameda de LeonOaxaca

The heart of the state capital, is dedicated to Don Antonio de Leon, distinguished Oaxacan, former governor of the state, and military officer who participated in the struggle for Mexican independence.
This parkway (Alameda de Leon) was also known as the “Plazoleta de Cantaros” because of the artisans who sold their products here. In front of this square is where Don Antonio de Leon lived, who suggested to his secretary Benito Juárez to turn this area into a deserved and beautiful garden. The parkway was inaugurated on October 13, 1843 with the name it carries today.
Not long ago, it was remodeled to give it a more urban look, in this very historical city.
It is located next to the Plaza de Armas (main square of the city), and here you will find the post office and the Catedral a la Virgen de la Asuncion, whose architecture is one of the richest examples of Baroque.
