Sumptuous Baroque building which was acquired by Isidro Huarte in 1772. This place was chosen to host the Emperor Maximilian of Austria during his visit to the state in 1864.
On this site, the Dr. Nicolas Leon founded the Regional Museum of Michoacan in 1886. It has a great collection that consists of an ecology section and five of  history of the state, which includes the period from the pre-Hispanic era to the Cardenas era. Among the documents there are  some colonial manuscripts and a painting called "El Traslado de las Monjas"  dated back from 1738 which according to the Mexican painter Diego Rivera, is an important historical, sociological and ethnographic testimony.
There are also pieces of polychrome ceramics, pottery and figures of the pre-Hispanic era.
The walls of the main staircase of the museum are covered by the work of master Alfredo Zalce and the corridors of the first floor shows paintings by Federico Cantu, Grece Greenwood, among others.
