Dzibilchaltun, the place Where there is writing on the stones has won fame thanks to a solar phenomenon that can be seen at every spring and autumn equinox at the temple most representative of this pre-Hispanic city, which is named Templo de las Siete Muñecas meaning Temple of the Seven Dolls. This phenomenon is a stunning example of the precision of Mayan knowledge as, only on these dates, you can see the exact moment of the sun rise right in the central opening of the temple.
This site also has the Museum of Mayan People, where you can see pieces that were recuperated from the excavations. The surrounding natural areas form an eco-park that is also interesting with the variety of plants and nature that can be found intact, and a cenote, a natural formed well, that served as a sacred place of offering to the gods for the ancient inhabitants.
