A funicular is a means of transportation that is used mainly in places with very steep inclines. It has two cars connected by a cable on a railway, a type of escalator, so that while one car goes up, the other goes down, using the natural forces. The cars often share the same route, except at the middle where it divides so that they can pass one another.

The Funicular de Guanajuato opened in 2001. It is a tourist attraction that draws many visitors, while improving the transportation that accesses another important attraction "The Pipila".

The Funicular entrances are located behind the Teatro Juarez and next to the Pipila Mounument.
