The Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús, in Guanajuato, is one of the biggest churches that was built by the Jesuit Society during the time of New Spain. Work began in 1746 and was completed in 1765.

It was developed according to the plans of the betlehemita friar Jose de la Cruz. It is said that miners worked day and night to finish the construction. It was mexican architect Felipe de Ureña who probably completed the only tower, because the original dome collapsed in 1808.

Much of its atrium, which was also a cemetery, was lost in the nineteenth century.

The facade is Churrigueresque style, of three doors with stipes, in which niches alternate for images of Jesuit saints.

The interior columns hold three naves. Neoclassical altars are some of the highlights, but what stands out is the collection of paintings from the eighteenth century, by painters such as Miguel Cabrera.
