The Alhondiga de Granaditas building that was built in the early nineteenth century, has formerly been a granary, warehouse, a wholesale marketplace, and a fort.

This site witnessed important battles of the War of Independence. In 1811, several leaders were murdered and decapitated here, and the heads of Aldama, Allende, Mariano Jimenez and Hidalgo were hung in every corner of the Alhondiga to show the entire "no Spanish" rebels what might happen to them.

In 1949 the building became the Museum of the Alhondiga de Granaditas, and nine years later the Regional Museum.

Entrance fee: $49 pesos.

Open from tuesday to saturday from 10:00 to 17:45 hrs.
