This Plaza is also known as  "Plaza de las Dos Copas" because of its two fountains shaped like it. The Plaza de la Liberacion  was built in 1952 by Ignacio Diaz Morales to remember one of the most significant events in Mexico's history: The abolition of slavery. The monument of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla breaking the chains of slavery. The Plaza is located opposite the Teatro Degollado and behind the Cathedral, on Hidalgo Avenue.
