Although it is likely that The King of Coliman or Hueytlatoani Colimotl is more myth than reality, it is without a doubt one of the most important symbols for the people of Colima. This monument is the creation of sculptor Juan F. Olaguibel, who is also the artist of the "Diana Cazadora" in Mexico City and "El Pipila" in Guanajuato. He delights us with this piece carved in quarry in a pre-Hispanic style. It represents the indigenous legendary character who defends the sovereignty of their race before the attack of the Spaniards. This bas-relief shows historical events and everyday life from the town.
