The Museo de Las Culturas de Occidente, also known as the Museo Maria Ahumada de Gomez, forms part of the Casa de la Cultura of the city. It was inaugurated on December 1, 1908, with the purpose of safeguarding and disseminating the archeological heritage of the pre-Hispanic villages that inhabited the territory of Colima.  It has 11 exhibit rooms that show pieces, complemented with an introduction to Mesoamerica and the Mesoamerican West, which highlight religion, architecture and activities among other things. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm. Guided tours which run 1 hour long are offered.  There is also a gift shop.
