Registered by the UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 2007, the central campus of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM)  is considered to be an example of modernity of the 20th century. It integrates urban design, architecture, engineering, open spaces and art with traditional elements from pre-Hispanic Mexico. Built between 1949 and 1952, the project required the joint efforts of more than 60 architects, engineers and artists who gave life to  the most important University in Latin America and one of the best in the world.  The campus retains intact its essential elements: urban design, original buildings, open spaces, walkways and parking areas. The physical components that express the historical, cultural and social value which distinguish this educational gem remain present.
