Teotihuacan is a Nahuatl word that means The place where men become gods, and according to the stories, the deities chose this place to create the center of the universe.

For many years, Teotihuacan was one of the most important ceremonial centers of Mesoamerica, and today it is currently the most visited archaeological site on the continent. There is little information about the Teotihuacan people, but it is known that the culture peaked in its splendor between the 3rd  and 4th centuries of our era.

To visit the ruins, prepare for sun and long walks. At the center , the Calzada de los Muertos or The Way of the Dead, welcomes visitors. Then, La Ciudadela, the temples of Quetzalcoatl and Tlaloc line the way as you come to reach the first pyramid, the Pyramid of the Sun, one of the world s largest with a base of 738 feet and a height of about 207 feet. The more daring tourists can climb up the long staircase, but be aware that the stairs are narrow and steep. At the end of the Calzada is the Pyramid of the Moon, which also can be climbed.

Teotihuacan has a site museum and just outside of the archeological area,  you will find places to eat and to buy souvenirs.  The ruins are located in the state of Mexico, 30 miles outside of Mexico city, near the towns of San Juan Teotihuacan and San Martin de las Piramides.

Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Entrance Fee to the archaeological zone of Teotihuacan: $ 57 pesos.
