Chapultepec Zoo, was established by the biologist Alfonso L. Herrera. The first animals were three lion cubs and two American bison, brought from the United States. Soon the collection rose up to 243 animals and opened in 1924!

Currently, the zoo receives an average of 5.5 million annual visitors, from the city of Mexico, national and foreign visitors so it is considered to be one of the places to see in the world.  Its facilities include a hospital and laboratories for the care of the animals, as well as a visitors center, a library, exhibition areas and an auditorium.

The Chapultepec Zoo is divided into two main areas of tropical forests, where we can find species like the jaguar and the gorilla, and the savanna regions, where we find the lion, giraffes and rhinos and other species.

It also has a panda and snake exhibit area, a butterfly zoo, and other permanent exhibits that complement the visit.

Services offered: Coat room, guided tours, restrooms, food court, strollers for rent, among others.

Hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. Closed : Mondays, and December 25th and January 1st.
