Francisco de Paula Toro Theater
Francisco de Paula Toro Theater
The Teatro Francisco de Paula Toro was built thanks to the enthusiasm of a group of neighbors who commissioned engineer Teodoro Journot with the supervision of the construction. It opened on September 15, 1834 under the name “Colosseum”, then later called “Toro”, and finally “Francisco de Paula Toro”, in name of its sponsor. Here the Campeche anthem was released on September 16, 1899. In 1965, the theater became part of the Autonomous University of Campeche until 1987, when it was acquired by the State Government, and after the restoration that was completed as part of the celebration of the 450th anniversary of the founding of Campeche, in 1990 it became the City Theater.
